8 Stunning Makeup Tutorials That Have Taught Us the Most

*Hits replay.*

We're always giddy when we learn about new things in the realm of beauty: an amazing (and strange) Korean powder hack for perfectly set foundation; how applying glitter polish with a sponge yields much better results; and how applying only a dab of bronzer underneath your lower lip creates the illusion of a fuller pout. While we've gleaned these tips from makeup artists, friends, and the dark corners of the Internet, there's one steady stream of beauty we can always count on as a source: YouTube makeup tutorials.

The numbers don't lie: millions of people, including us here at Byrdie HQ, flock to the site to learn how to create stunning new looks. There's something oddly satisfying about watching someone go through an entire makeup routine from start to finish and seeing the transformation unfold, so to give you all a bit of eye candy, we rounded up our favorite tutorials (with a few of our makeup hack videos thrown in for good measure).

Gilded Fall Makeup

Sona Gasparian has a smart tip for applying dark lipstick: When working on the upper lip, tilt your head down so you can catch any areas you may have missed, and vice-versa for the bottom lip (tilt your head up). When completed, Gasparian's created a stunning cold-weather beauty look, complete with Urban Decay Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner in Goldrush in her tear ducts for a gilded accent. That liner is off the market, but Revlon So Fierce! Chrome Ink Liquid Pen Eyeliner in Bronzage ($9) is another good option.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's Everyday Look

When a makeup artist posts a video of them doing a celebrity's glam session, we feel like we've been let in on a big secret (even if millions of other people have access to the video, too). As such, we pause, rewind, take notes, and test the looks out ourselves with a hope and prayer that it'll turn out at least half as good.

Take, for example, this perfect every day tutorial created by the fabulous Lisa Eldridge on supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Bronzed eyes? Check. Subtle highlight? Check. Stunning finished product? Double-check. Rosie even lets us in on a beauty secret of her own: She usually only lines her upper lip before applying lip balm to "cheat the edges slightly." (Though it's safe to say the pillowy-lipped model doesn't need any cheating whatsoever).

Elevated Drugstore Eyeshadow

Modern-day drugstores sell a variety of richly pigmented, long-lasting makeup. This tutorial reveals the best way to get an elevated, chic eye look, using products gleaned entirely from your neighborhood drugstore.

Byrdie Tip

You can make any drugstore eye shadow perform like a prestige shadow by placing a white pencil on your lids first. This way, the pigment has something to grip onto (think of it like paint primer).

30-Second Full Brows Tutorial

Do your arches ever look, well, too over-arched? Brush your brow hairs down instead of up before filling them in with a pencil so that you're following closely along the top of your brow instead of extending past its natural pattern. Then, brush them back into place and apply a bit of concealer to any patches that still need filling. Finally, use brow powder on top of the concealer (doing this allows the powder to have a better grip), et voilà! Full, thick, and natural-looking brows that aren't overdrawn.

Bella Hadid's Anti-Jet Lag Routine

This video of Bella Hadid walking us through her quick anti-jet lag beauty routine nabbed a spot on our list of the best makeup tutorials because it's so delightfully simple. With only a few well-placed products, Bella's got a fresh-faced, no-makeup makeup look.

Kim Kardashian West's 10-Minute Beauty Routine

A rare, candid glimpse at Kim Kardashian West doing her own makeup imposes so many nuggets of wisdom. Tip one: She brushes on some Giorgio Armani liquid Illuminator underneath her foundation for a subtle glow. Tip two: She applies foundation all over her face, lips included (this helps prime the lips for color later on). Tip three: She bakes her concealer (a Kardashian beauty routine staple) with pink powder and sets the concealer around her mouth (to fill in lines) with yellow powder. Tip four: She dots a bit of highlighter right underneath her eyes (playing coy and not telling us what she's using because she has some "exciting things coming out") to illuminate her under-eyes.

Smoky Eye Look With Monika Blunder

We love that this evening look tutorial featuring two Byrdie faves, celebrity makeup artists Joey Maalouf and Monika Blunder, employs Blunder as the muse. Maalouf is a genius at manipulating the makeup to complement what Blunder deems "mature" skin and proves that a smoky eye is incredibly versatile.

French Party Makeup

Ah, French beauty. It's so impossibly effortless; it makes us wonder if there's a magical beautifying potion floating in the Seine that warrants femmes Françaises to skip the heavy makeup. Even in what she's dubbed "party" makeup, vlogger Maripier Morin has created a glam look that's still natural (not a dose of baking or strobing to be seen here). To top it all off, each product is from Revlon (read: inexpensive).
